It’s no secret that since the expansion of Youth Pride from a local and then regional movement, to the national and international one it is today, the south has been very prominent as it relates to producing epic members for us.
Two such folks are Darius Jones and Maliek Powell.
Maliek got on our radar through his work with SpeakOut, a HIV awareness campaign. He went on to do individual work in Alabama around HIV and AIDS, work he still does today, which also includes an impressive media component.
Darius has held many prominent roles in the Black LGBTQ community is South Carolina. From his efforts fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the local and state level, he also played a crucial supportive role on the South Carolina Black Pride Committee.
